Behavioral Interventionist




Reports to

Chief Program Officer







The Behavioral Interventionist is responsible for providing training and skilled interventions to equip staff to proactively prevent and reactively manage situations to support care and services for individuals requiring a higher level of behavioral intervention. The Behavioral Interventionist will train agency staff in classroom settings and provide targeted assessment and training related to specific locations and individuals as needed. This is a part-time position that will be supervised by the Chief Program Officer and will align with CDD's person-centered support practices with the goal being for individuals to fully participate in their everyday life.


Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:

  • Work with Training Coordinator to develop and implement training curriculum covering basic principles of behavioral intervention techniques for newly hired Direct Support Professionals and program management staff. The training should model strategies and methodologies for working with clients who have behavioral, adaptive and/or social/communication challenges;
  • Complete annual refresher training for program staff;
  • Provide ongoing consultation, training and assistance to program staff regarding crisis intervention and critical incidents as needed;
  • Oversee design of behavior intervention for individuals with behavioral challenges;
  • Track and trend data to modify behavior supports for individuals as needed;
  • Participate in individuals' annual person-centered support planning as needed;
  • Review event reports related to behavioral incidents with program management team to identify areas where behavioral supports may be needed and follow up accordingly;
  • Track data and trends related to agency behavioral incidents;
  • Use appropriate assessment instruments and data to develop and implement behavioral support plans and train staff on the plans as needed;
  • Observe onsite and in the field to make recommendations for interventions and support techniques
  • Ensure the implementation of behavioral support plans; document contacts and observations; use professional knowledge and judgment to strategize for continuous improvements;
  • Conduct periodic service reviews to monitor the effectiveness of treatment programs and their implementation; modify and document plan changes as needed;
